Our under 8 and under 10 players had a special treat on Tuesday 19th of June when they were coached by a former winning Kilkenny coach and national hurling development manager Martin Fogarty.
Martin has a passion for hurling and a desire that the game be played in every community and school in the country.
For an hour and a half, in torrential rain, the players were treated to a masterclass in hurling that finished up with them asking for more. Martin emphasised how important it is for players to have fun by designing drills that are challenging and engaging developing both their hurling skills and flexibility. He also had not just our own coaches but all of the parents present actively involved in the session.
This is something that we will be encouraging ALL parents to do in the future. Get involved in the training session. In this way you can practice these skills with your children at home.
Also in attendance at the training session was Adrian Hession, Mayo GAA Games Promotion Officer. Adrian has been a tireless advocate in promoting the game of hurling in schools and clubs around the county.
